President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated an eight-member committee to spearhead the planning of a National Education Forum.
Chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, the committee has been given just two weeks to produce a comprehensive report and a detailed roadmap for the highly anticipated forum.
The members include some of the country’s most respected educationists:
- Professor Goski Alabi
- Professor Rosemary Bosu
- Dr. Samuel Awuku
- Professor Smile Dzisi
- Kofi Asare
- Stephen Owusu
- Inusah Shiraz
Their task is to establish a central theme and sub-themes to drive discussions, identify key stakeholders, and propose a date, venue, and budget for the event. The forum is expected to attract a broad range of stakeholders, including students, teachers, civil society groups, chiefs, religious organizations, political parties, and members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education.
With only two weeks to submit their report and three weeks post-forum to draft an action plan, the committee faces an enormous task in ensuring meaningful engagement and concrete outcomes.
The forum aims to create a unified national strategy for improving Ghana’s education sector, tackling issues such as funding, infrastructure, curriculum development, and teacher training.
