President John Mahama has instructed the Minister of Finance to secure funding for the commencement of Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project to address the destruction caused by tidal waves in coastal communities such as Amutinu, Agavedzi, and Salakope.
The recent disaster left over 600 people homeless, prompting the government to prioritize long-term solutions to mitigate future occurrences.

During a visit to the affected areas on March 6, 2025, President Mahama assured residents that funding for the project would be included in the upcoming national budget.
“Funding for the sea defence project will be captured in the budget to be presented to Parliament in a few days,” he stated.

In addition to the sea defence project, the government has announced plans for an immediate resettlement site for displaced families to provide them with safe and secure housing.
