The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed six new cases of Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, pushing the national case count to 85.
The announcement, made via the GHS Facebook page on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, follows a surge earlier in the week that saw 34 cases recorded across 10 regions.
“The public is advised to remain alert,” the statement read, as health officials continue to ramp up surveillance and contact tracing efforts in affected areas.
The viral disease, which spreads through close contact with infected individuals or contaminated materials, presents symptoms such as fever, rash, muscle pain, headache, and swollen lymph nodes.
The GHS has urged individuals experiencing any of these signs to report to the nearest health facility promptly.
“Early reporting of symptoms is key,” the Service emphasized, adding that those showing signs of illness should be avoided.
While assuring the public that the situation remains under control, the GHS also called for strict adherence to hygiene practices, particularly handwashing, to curb further transmission.
