The Assin Kyekywere Circuit Court has sentenced three individuals to a total of 50 years in prison for attempted robbery.
Nigerian national Mohammed Baba received 20 years for conspiracy, causing harm, and attempted robbery, while his Ghanaian accomplices, Francis Baidoo and Wisdom Aleki, were sentenced to 15 years each for conspiracy and attempted robbery.
The trio had planned to rob Emmanuel Obese, a cocoa-purchasing clerk in Wawase Semanhyia, but their scheme was foiled when a witness raised an alarm, leading to their arrest.
During their failed escape, Mohammed Baba and another suspect, Francis Larbi, attacked commuters, leaving Emmanuel Nti with knife wounds.
Baba was eventually overpowered and arrested, while Larbi managed to escape.
Chief Inspector Abagna Anyongo confirmed that a manhunt is underway to capture Larbi, emphasizing that law enforcement is committed to ensuring all involved in the crime face justice.
The court’s ruling sends a strong message against violent crime in the region.
Residents of Wawase Semanhyia have praised the swift action of law enforcement, expressing relief that the criminals have been put behind bars.
Meanwhile, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could help apprehend the fugitive suspect.
