The Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has dismissed allegations that former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, was shot during an incident at the church’s premises in Kwabenya on Saturday, June 21, 2026.
In a statement issued by the church leadership, the mission claimed that the former legislator arrived at the venue during a lawful church programme and allegedly drove her vehicle into the entrance of the property, causing extensive damage to two metallic gates.

According to the church, Adwoa Safo “forcefully drove her vehicle into the entrance gates,” resulting in damage to the structures and creating panic among worshippers and invited guests who had gathered for the event.
The statement indicated that several people were seated near the entrance at the time of the incident, raising concerns about the safety of those present. Church leaders stated that security personnel stationed at the premises intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.
The church explained that security officers acted “to prevent further escalation and to protect persons gathered at the event,” insisting that their actions were solely intended to ensure public safety and maintain order at the venue.
Responding to reports that the former MP had sustained gunshot wounds, the church described such claims as inaccurate and misleading. It said it had become aware of “unverified media reports” alleging that Adwoa Safo had been shot during the incident.
The mission further alleged that the former legislator had engaged in a “purported victim presentation” in what it described as an attempt to create the impression that she had suffered a gunshot injury. The church categorically denied that any shooting occurred, maintaining that, to the best of its knowledge, no gunshots were fired during the incident.
The church’s version of events differs sharply from an earlier statement issued by the Ghana Police Service. The police said preliminary investigations suggested that armed security personnel at the premises allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to Madam Safo.
Police investigators also reported that the former MP’s vehicle had been found with multiple suspected gunshot marks. Following investigations, six private security guards were arrested in connection with the incident.
The police further disclosed that several weapons, including pump-action guns and a pistol loaded with ammunition, as well as communication equipment, had been retrieved from the suspects.
Meanwhile, Kristo Asafo Mission has called on the relevant authorities to undertake a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter. The church also urged the public to avoid drawing conclusions based on social media reports and allow law enforcement agencies to establish the facts through due process.
The mission reiterated its commitment to peace, truth, the rule of law and the safety of all persons who attend its events.
Investigations by the Ghana Police Service remain ongoing.
