Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has criticized Ghana’s continued reliance on foreign institutions, stating that the country’s independence has been “auctioned” back to colonial powers.
Speaking to ABC News GH, he urged Ghanaians to reflect on the sacrifices made by the three ex-servicemen who were shot on February 28, 1948, during a peaceful march demanding unpaid benefits.
He lamented that despite their struggle, Ghana remains under the influence of international financial institutions such as the IMF and World Bank.
“They fought for our liberation, and through that, Kwame Nkrumah was arrested. That escalated the momentum for our independence. That independence we have today has been auctioned,” Mornah stated.
He further questioned, “Which institution of our land is not being controlled by the IMF, World Bank, or any of the European institutions?”
He called on Ghanaians to take control of their destiny and prove that “the black man is indeed capable of managing his own affairs.”
