Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), was on Monday, May 26, granted bail to the tune of GH₵10 million with two sureties justified by landed properties in Accra.
The High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, delivered the ruling after a strong bail application from his lawyers, who cited his deteriorating health, age, and long service to the nation.
The 80-year-old professor, facing four charges including wilfully causing financial loss to the state, has pleaded not guilty to all charges related to the failed $2 million Sky Train urban rail project.
As part of his bail terms, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is to surrender all travel documents and report weekly to the police.
The case has been adjourned to June 10 at 10:00 am for a case management conference that will outline trial timelines and evidentiary procedures.
His legal team assured the court of full compliance with all bail conditions.
Meanwhile, the first accused, former GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah, has also been granted bail and is reportedly complying with all court directives.
