The Pan-African gathering, The Convention 2024, a program designed to unveil the man behind the mask of “THE NEW FORCE,” has been canceled just hours before it was set to begin.
Originally scheduled for Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Independence Square to coincide with Ghana’s Constitution Day, the event faced cancellation as per a government directive received by the organizers. The New Africa Foundation, responsible for the event, conveyed in a statement that all preparations, with speakers such as Professor P. L. O. Lumumba, Julius Malema, Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, and Peter Obi, along with numerous attendees, were in place at Independence Square when the decision to cancel was communicated.
The organizers expressed their dismay at the abrupt cancellation, describing it as surprising. They asserted that the government had granted approval for the event as early as November 2023. In their statement, they offered apologies to the disappointed attendees for any inconvenience caused by the sudden change in plans.
“We regret to inform you that the government has cancelled the above pan-African event, which was to take place today at Independence Square in Accra, Ghana. All the special guests have arrived, and thousands of people have come from all over Ghana as well as around the globe for this historic event. We have just been informed of the cancellation of this event a couple of hours before its commencement. This event was approved by the government in November of 2023. This came as a shock to us and a devastation to our dignitaries and special guests who flew in from around the world.
“We at the New Africa Foundation apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused to our audience and the public alike. Please be aware that this situation is and was beyond our control.”
