Hon. Vincent Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo and member of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, has called for a meticulous approach to the ongoing vetting process.
Speaking on ABC Prime, Assafuah insisted that allegations, such as those made by activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, must not be brushed aside.
“We cannot allow some of these allegations to go without proving them,” he said, adding that the integrity of Parliament is at stake.
Assafuah also rejected any suggestion of rushing the vetting process. “Let it not be said anywhere that because we have several nominees to vet, we need to rush. The ranking members have a responsibility to ask any question on behalf of the Ghanaian people,” he stated, referencing past vettings like that of the former Finance Minister, which spanned multiple days.
The MP’s comments come amid growing tension surrounding Vormawor’s bribery allegations against the Appointments Committee. Chairman Bernard Ahiafor has since summoned Vormawor to substantiate his claims, with the activist expected to appear on January 29.
The unfolding controversy has led some members of the Appointments Committee, particularly in the NPP, to advocate for a suspension of vetting activities until the accusations are resolved. Assafuah, however, emphasized the importance of proceeding diligently while maintaining accountability and transparency.
