Kofi Asamoah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Asante Akim North Constituency, caused a stir at Agogo-based Salt FM on Thursday, November 7.
He arrived to demand an on-air retraction and apology from Samuel Acheampong, host of the station’s morning talk show, Anopa Busuo, over allegations that Asamoah had received campaign support from the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament.
The comments, which spread unease among NDC supporters, prompted Asamoah to confront the issue directly after failing to resolve it via the show’s call-in segment.
The situation escalated when Asamoah, accompanied by some supporters, was denied entry to the studio during the live broadcast, sparking a confrontation with the station’s staff. Stephen Appiani, head of Salt FM’s News Department, confirmed the incident and noted that while there were no reported injuries, the station lodged an official complaint with the police.
The clash added to the tense political climate, with accusations flying between the parties involved.
Asamoah denied accusations that he arrived at the station with thugs or weapons and expressed intentions to take legal action against Salt FM.
He also alleged that the station’s owner, who is an independent parliamentary candidate, was exploiting the platform to undermine his credibility. The incident underscores the heated nature of local politics as election season approaches.
