The Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Council of Parents, Teachers Association (NCPTA), Irene Sam, has called on parents to take proactive measures to address the ongoing feeding challenges in Senior High Schools (SHSs) by providing food supplements for their wards.

Speaking to ABC News GH, she expressed disappointment with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) for failing to engage the NCPTA before issuing a public directive on the matter.

“Our doors have always been open to CHASS,” she stated, adding that prior consultation could have enabled parents to prepare and begin supplementation earlier, ensuring students are not deprived of essential nutrients.

Despite the oversight, Sam assured parents that the NCPTA would ensure necessary steps are taken to provide the required food supplements.

“We are trying to manage the situation while government comes in with its measures,” she said.

Sam also urged school heads to be receptive and allow parents to support their children with food supplements during these difficult times.

The NCPTA PRO further emphasized the association’s autonomy, stating, “We are an independent entity legally represented, and the Ministry of Education has no authority to give us directives.”

She called on the Mahama administration to respect the NCPTA’s independence and avoid interference.

Her comments follow CHASS’s directive urging parents to supplement food supplies amid severe shortages, which have been attributed to delayed government disbursements and contract uncertainties.
