Security consultant Dr. Franklyn Kwasi Biney has called on the government to provide full logistical and financial backing to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s ongoing mediation efforts aimed at resolving the protracted Bawku conflict.
Speaking on ABC News’ morning show, Dr. Biney stressed that while the Asantehene’s intervention is commendable, its success will hinge on sustained support, proper planning, and follow-through.
“Peace in Bawku won’t happen through dialogue alone it requires commitment, follow-up, and strong community involvement,” he noted.
Dr. Biney recommended a structured approach that includes implementing agreed-upon resolutions, conducting regular review meetings to assess progress and address emerging challenges, and deeply involving local communities in the reconciliation process.
He added that sustainable peace must be accompanied by targeted economic development in the region.
“Community engagement is paramount,” he stated, emphasizing that restoring livelihoods and improving socio-economic conditions will reduce tensions and build long-term trust among factions.
His remarks come as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the invitation of President Mahama, leads a renewed peace effort in Bawku a region plagued by decades of ethnic and chieftaincy-related violence.
