President John Dramani Mahama has pledged that his government will complete the ongoing construction of the 507-bed capacity Maternity and Children’s Block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), a key health infrastructure project in the Ashanti Region.

The President made this announcement while welcoming the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House on Monday afternoon.

The project, which commenced in February 2021 following the demolition of an aging 45-year-old structure, had its first phase scheduled for completion in May 2024.

President Mahama emphasized that his administration is committed to finishing this critical facility, which is expected to ease pressure on maternal and child health services in the region.

During the visit, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged government appointees to serve with diligence and integrity in the interest of national progress.

In response, President Mahama praised the role of traditional leadership, calling the visit “a powerful reaffirmation of the empowering bond between government and chieftaincy.”

He also lauded the Asantehene’s ongoing mediation efforts in the protracted Bawku conflict, stating, “Though complex, you have given us a renewed form of hope. We wish you well in this endeavor and hope that lasting peace will prevail.”

The Bawku conflict, which has claimed over 300 lives over the years, has seen several government interventions, many of which have proven unsuccessful.
