Richard Kumodor has criticized Ghana’s political and legal culture, warning that the country is becoming a society that celebrates lawlessness.
“We have become a state that glorifies everything, including criminality and fraud,” he declared during his appearance on ABC in the Morning.
His remarks followed President Mahama’s demand for swift accountability for electoral violence during the 2024 polls.
Kumodor lamented that despite mounting evidence of wrongdoing during past elections, justice has remained elusive.
He called on Attorney General Dominic Akuritinga Ayine to break the silence and update the nation on investigations, noting that the public deserves clarity and closure.
“From 2020 till now, what has happened? Where are the prosecutions?” he questioned, pointing to a systemic failure to follow through on cases that undermine democracy.
President Mahama, speaking at the Post-2024 Elections Evaluation Dialogue in Koforidua, reiterated his commitment to justice, referencing the impact of the Vigilantism Act and vowing to compensate victims. Yet Kumodor insists that speeches and policies alone are not enough.
“Until we stop glorifying impunity and fraud, Ghana’s democracy will remain under threat,” he warned, calling for urgent reforms and political will to reverse the trend.
