Voting at the Methodist 1 Polling Station in Ablekuma North was abruptly suspended following a violent incident involving the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson.
According to reports from ABC News GH, the MP was physically attacked by individuals believed to be affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), sparking panic and disruption at the polling centre.
Eyewitnesses described a sudden outbreak of violence, forcing many voters and officials to flee the scene for safety.
ABC News reporter, providing live updates from the ground, confirmed that the Electoral Commission temporarily halted voting at the station due to the chaos.
“Chaos erupts at Methodist 1 Polling Station,” the correspondent reported, noting that security personnel swiftly intervened to contain the situation.
This centre is reported to have over 50 Police Officers to help keep calm.
The rerun election, involving 19 polling stations in the constituency, had been largely peaceful until the incident.
