The government has launched a round-the-clock operation at the Tema Port to register and monitor all incoming earth-moving equipment.
The initiative, led by the Minerals Commission in partnership with the DVLA, is aimed at tightening control over machinery often used in illegal mining.
Each machine will be fitted with a tamper-proof GPS tracker to ensure constant surveillance, especially in mining districts.
The move forms part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to combat galamsey.
The operation was officially announced to Parliament by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah on July 16.
