The Ministry of Health has confirmed the disbursement of GH₵462 million to cover the training allowances of 120,000 nursing students across Ghana.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, July 17, the payments, which span a six-month period, began yesterday and are expected to continue through next Friday.
This initiative fulfills a key campaign promise made by President John Dramani Mahama and signals the government’s renewed commitment to supporting the health sector.
“This development is a significant step in improving the welfare of nursing trainees and sustaining the motivation of future health professionals,” the Ministry stated.
It added that the move aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen the health system by ensuring financial stability for critical human resources in training.
The Ministry further emphasized that the intervention was part of a broader strategy to ensure that students in Nurses Training Colleges receive the support they need throughout their academic journey.
In its statement, the Ministry expressed appreciation to President Mahama for honoring his commitment and thanked all stakeholders involved in ensuring the timely release and distribution of the funds.
“The Ministry extends its appreciation to the president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for fulfilling his promise to the nurses,” it said.
Reaffirming its dedication to healthcare education, the Ministry also pledged to work closely with training institutions to maintain quality standards and attract more students into the nursing profession.
