The Parliamentary Network Africa (PN Africa) has criticised the Minority’s walkout from Parliament on Thursday, July 17, describing it as unnecessary and avoidable.
The civil society group urged both sides of the House to use internal dialogue mechanisms to address grievances rather than resorting to public disruptions.
The walkout followed disagreements over procedural matters after the recent passing of Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Executive Director of PN Africa, Sammy Obeng, reacting to the development, said the walkout could have been prevented if all parties had exercised restraint and mutual respect.
“It’s a rather sad situation,” he noted, adding that while tensions may arise in Parliament, they must not derail the legislative process or damage public trust in democratic institutions.
Mr. Obeng emphasized that parliamentary disagreements are not unusual, but the manner in which they are handled is critical.
He called on the leadership of both the Majority and Minority caucuses to recommit to constructive engagement.
“Issues like this are best resolved internally,” he said, urging MPs to protect the dignity and effectiveness of Parliament at all times.
