A total of 846 final-year Senior High School (SHS) students from Nkwanta SHS, Community SHS, and Kyabobo Girls’ SHS are set to return to their classrooms following weeks of closure due to violent conflict in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The decision follows firm assurances from security agencies that measures have been taken to protect the safety of both students and staff.
The closure, prompted by recent violent clashes that claimed several lives — including a final-year student from Nkwanta SHS — had caused significant concern among parents, educators, and the wider community.
After a series of engagements involving school authorities, traditional leaders from the Adele, Akyode, and Challa communities, and local security officials, a roadmap for the safe reopening of schools has been agreed upon.
According to Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, headmaster of Nkwanta SHS, all final-year students, including day students from the three schools, are to report to Nkwanta SHS to begin preparations for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Security around the school and key access routes has been reinforced, with police patrols and emergency response protocols now in place.
Traditional leaders have also thrown their support behind the move, calling for unity and a collective effort to secure uninterrupted learning for the affected students.
