The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has urged the government to conduct a comprehensive audit of all revenue collection systems in the energy sector.
COPEC’s Executive Secretary, Paul Ofori, stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the handling of funds derived from taxes, levies in the petroleum price build-up, and the Unified Petroleum Price Fund.
Speaking to ABC News GH today, Mr. Ofori noted that certain funds collected within the sector are not being properly accounted for or channeled toward their intended purposes.
He said an independent and thorough audit would help identify gaps, address inefficiencies, and ensure that resources are used in line with their mandates.
His remarks follow the Ministry of Finance’s recent call for inputs from civil society organizations toward the formulation of the 2026–2029 economic policy framework.
The ministry has invited submissions from business associations, professional bodies, financial institutions, faith-based groups, and the general public to help shape the upcoming budget, which is expected to be presented to Parliament by November 15, 2025.
