Political scientist Dr. Samuel Afriyie has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against what he describes as an “individualistic approach” by most of its presidential aspirants.
According to him, many members are more concerned with projecting themselves as individuals rather than promoting the collective strength of the party.
He warned that such a strategy deepens internal divisions and undermines the party’s chances in future elections.
Dr. Afriyie argued that the NPP has historically performed better in national elections when its members put aside personal ambitions and rallied behind a united front.
He stressed that resources and power alone cannot guarantee victory if the party continues to be torn apart by accusations and selfish interests.
“If NPP do not use their common sense, they will always loose. The party is now seen as individualistic, accusing people for their own selfish reasons,” he cautioned.
Touching on personalities within the party, Dr. Afriyie praised Bryan Acheampong for his contributions but noted that in politics mistakes are inevitable.
He however emphasized that it is never too late for individuals to apologise when wrong, as reconciliation remains key to building the unity and collective purpose that will keep the NPP competitive in future elections.
