Political Analyst Dr. Samuel Afriyie has called on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to embrace consensus-building in the upcoming Tamale Central by-election as 12 aspirants gear up to contest for the party’s ticket.
He cautioned that the crowded race could deepen internal divisions if not properly managed, adding that unity will be essential for the NDC ahead of the September 30 polls.
Dr. Afriyie stressed that the party must rally around a candidate capable of consolidating its stronghold in the constituency or risk losing it to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, the stakes are high, and failure to manage internal competition could prove costly in the by-election.
“They have to pick someone who can maintain that kind of stronghold for the party, else they might lose it to the strong opposition which is the NPP,” he said.
He further emphasized the need for consensus-building to avert disagreements among aspirants, warning that unchecked rivalry could erode the party’s chances.
“If there is not consensus, they might all think they are qualified and might bring disagreements. The NDC needs to be cautious, or else it might be the end of the party in that constituency,” he cautioned.
