The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a public alert over the growing circulation of AI-generated deepfake videos that falsely feature prominent figures, including the President, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and well-known media personalities.
According to the Authority, these videos are being widely shared on platforms such as Facebook to promote fake investment schemes, fraudulent financial services, and unapproved medical products like diabetes and weight-loss drugs.
Explaining the threat, the CSA said cybercriminals are exploiting artificial intelligence tools to mimic the voices and appearances of public figures in order to trick unsuspecting victims.
These scams, the Authority warned, pose both financial and health risks to citizens, as victims may lose money or fall prey to dangerous medical products.
The CSA has urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant by verifying suspicious claims with institutions such as the Bank of Ghana and the Food and Drugs Authority before engaging.
It added that the Authority is working with law enforcement, social media companies, and other agencies to track, investigate, and remove the malicious content from circulation.
