A Ghanaian citizen, Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta, has formally petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate Supreme Court Justice Yonny Kulendi and businessman Richard Jakpa for allegedly conspiring to influence legal proceedings in the high-profile case of Republic v. Cassiel Ato Forson & 2 Others.
In a letter dated September 29, 2025, Ofori-Atta claimed that Jakpa, one of the accused persons in the trial, leveraged his family ties to Justice Kulendi to undermine the prosecution’s efforts.
According to the petition, Justice Kulendi allegedly engaged former Attorney-General Godfred Dame in efforts to weaken or discontinue Jakpa’s prosecution.
Ofori-Atta referenced trial records, including purported exchanges between Jakpa and the Attorney-General facilitated by Justice Kulendi, as well as 68 WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Jakpa.
He also cited reported attempts by Justice Kulendi to convene meetings at his residence to sway prosecutorial decisions.
Ofori-Atta contends that such actions, if proven, constitute criminal interference with the justice process under Ghana’s Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). He urged the CID to launch a full-scale investigation and prosecute the implicated parties as required by law.
The petition includes trial transcripts from June 6, 18, 20, and 27, 2024, along with the WhatsApp records, and Ofori-Atta has pledged to provide additional documents to support the probe.
