Country Director of the African Centre for Digital Transformation, Hafiz Toyyib, has warned that Ghana is becoming a hotspot for cybercriminals, with online fraud and other digital crimes on the rise.
Speaking in an interview on ABC In The Morning, he said, “A lot of people find Ghana a place to come and deal in cyber criminalities.”
Toyyib, likening the situation to the country’s illegal mining problem, Galamsey, he noted that both are “born out of unemployment” and pose serious national challenges.
The African Centre for Digital Transformation Country Director however called for urgent action from authorities, including stricter cybercrime laws, stronger enforcement, and public education campaigns to curb the rise of internet-based crimes.
He warned that if left unchecked, online-based crimes could have severe social, economic, and reputational consequences for Ghana, as networks of cybercriminals exploit victims both locally and internationally.
