Ghana’s men’s 4×100 metres relay team has secured qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, delivering a composed and determined performance at the World Athletics Relays in Botswana.
The quartet of Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Amoah and Edwin Gadayi clocked 38.09 seconds to finish second in Heat 1 of the repechage round, sealing their place at the global showpiece.
The result marked a strong response from the team after falling short of automatic qualification a day earlier. Ghana had placed fourth in Heat 3 with a time of 38.19 seconds, narrowly missing the cut and leaving their fate hanging on the repechage.
However, the team returned to the track with renewed urgency and sharper execution. Improved baton exchanges and better coordination proved decisive, allowing them to maintain speed across all legs and stay competitive in a tightly contested race.
From the opening leg, Ghana showed greater control and rhythm, with each runner delivering a disciplined performance to keep the team in contention before sealing qualification in the closing stretch.
The feat represents Ghana’s fourth appearance at the World Athletics Championships in the men’s 4x100m relay, underlining steady progress in the country’s sprint programme.
Beyond qualification, the performance signals a team gaining confidence and cohesion on the international stage. With time to build ahead of Beijing 2027, Ghana’s relay squad is shaping up as a side capable of challenging stronger nations if current improvements continue.
