The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the successful rescue and repatriation of 28 Ghanaian nationals who were victims of a sophisticated human trafficking network operating in Côte d’Ivoire.

In a press release issued on May 10, 2026, the Ministry disclosed that the victims, predominantly young people, were rescued through a joint operation involving security operatives and officials of the Ghana Embassy in Abidjan.

According to the statement, the victims arrived safely in Ghana on Sunday and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations into the trafficking operation.

The Government of Ghana commended Ivorian authorities for their collaboration and intelligence-sharing, which contributed to the success of the operation.

The Ministry further cautioned Ghanaians to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to trafficking schemes often disguised as travel and job opportunities abroad.

“The public is encouraged to confirm the validity of any advertisement or offer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations and Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad to avoid falling prey,” the statement noted.

Government also assured the public that efforts are underway to dismantle the criminal networks behind the trafficking activities and bring the masterminds to justice.

The Ministry reiterated that the welfare and protection of Ghanaians remain a top priority and urged citizens to be cautious when dealing with unlicensed recruitment agencies promising overseas opportunities.
