The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall expected to affect several parts of the country from Sunday evening through to the night.
In a weather advisory issued at 1700 UTC on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Agency said a thick band of rain-bearing clouds has spread across inland coastal areas and sections of the forest zone, creating conditions likely to trigger widespread rainfall and isolated heavy storms.
According to GMet, another storm system forming along the southern Ghana-Togo border and moving from southern Benin is expected to intensify weather activity across the coastal, middle and transition belts of the country.
Regions expected to be significantly affected include Greater Accra, Eastern, Central and Western Regions, with residents advised to prepare for possible heavy downpours and stormy conditions.
The Agency indicated that communities such as Ho, Kpando, Akatsi, Anloga, Tema, Accra, Dodowa, Aburi, Koforidua, Akosombo, Akuse and Kete Krachi are likely to experience rainfall between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Other areas including Winneba, Twifo Praso, Elmina, Cape Coast, Akim Oda, Assin Fosu and Assin Bereku are expected to experience similar conditions from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, Obuasi, Kumasi, Ejura, Sefwi Wiawso, Sefwi Bekwai and New Edubiase are forecast to experience severe weather conditions between 6:00 p.m. and midnight.
GMet further cautioned that strong winds could precede the movement of the storm systems and urged the public to take necessary safety precautions, particularly in flood-prone and vulnerable areas.
