The Ghana Police Service has arrested 24 suspects during a coordinated intelligence-led operation aimed at combating crime and strengthening public safety across parts of the Ashanti Region.

The exercise, carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, targeted communities including Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo and Abofour.

According to the Police, the operation focused on suspected drug trafficking activities and other criminal offences within the affected communities. A total of 24 suspects—comprising 21 men and three women—were taken into custody.

One of the suspects, 49-year-old Richmond Okyere, was allegedly found in possession of a pump-action gun with serial number 21GN-1918. The remaining suspects include Mark Appiah Kubi, Nkrumah Zakaria, Paul Addo, Louis Samba, Azupeh Kelvin, Stephen Opoku, Fredrick Boakye, Frimpong Yiadom, Dennis Owusu, Alfred Agyeman, Owusu Davis, Kwaku Agyemang Duah, Akwasi Amankwah, Solomon Asamoah, Bushiru Alhassan, Juliana Vivor, Douglas Osei, Kwabena Aikins, Osman Ibrahim, Amponsah Emmanuel, Kwabena Fosu, Ama Pokuah and Musah Haruna.

Police also retrieved a number of items believed to be linked to criminal activities. The exhibits include a pump-action gun, seven rounds of Red Star AAA cartridges, an unregistered Toyota Highlander, an unregistered Toyota Camry, a Mercedes-Benz saloon car with registration number AS 8724-Z, an unregistered motorcycle and a fireproof high-security safe.

Officers further recovered 489 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, additional parcels of suspected narcotic substances, 230 tablets of Tramadol of varying strengths, 11 Royal 225mg tablets, narcotics processing materials, bottles of a drink suspected to be laced with narcotic substances, locally made toffees believed to contain narcotics, a Dell laptop, two LED television sets, three boxes of African Viagra, 52 lighters, 12 crushers, quantities of ash residue believed to be associated with narcotics use and cash suspected to be proceeds from the sale of illegal drugs.

The Police said all the suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations, while the retrieved exhibits have been retained as evidence. Those found culpable at the end of investigations will be arraigned before court.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations to tackle drug-related offences, violent crime and other criminal activities. It also urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement by volunteering credible information through the nearest police station or the appropriate emergency channels.
