The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has suspended its planned 15% increase in transport fares, which was set to take effect on Monday, July 22, 2024.

The hike was initially proposed due to rising costs of fuel and essential transport business items like spare parts.

However, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) advised commuters to ignore the fare hike announcement.

David Agboado, Public Relations Officer of the Concerned Drivers Association, explained to Citi Business News that the decision to suspend the increase was to avoid adding to the public’s financial burdens.

“We the transport operators have sat together and do our own thing. We have come to the understanding that things have been increased…fuel, spare parts and everything is up but this is not the time that we should increase the transport fare,” Agboado stated.

He urged commercial drivers to maintain the current fares until a more suitable time for an increase, emphasizing the importance of patience and unity among transport operators for the benefit of all stakeholders.
