Alberta Obinim, a 43-year-old care worker, was fatally stabbed while heroically defending her children during a knife attack at their Manchester home.
The incident unfolded late Sunday night in Gorton, where Obinim was reportedly attacked by a knifeman around 11:20 PM.
Eyewitnesses recounted how Obinim rushed to rescue her child from their room, only to be attacked and fatally wounded by the assailant.
Despite her bravery, Obinim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The attack left Obinim’s 17-year-old daughter and 64-year-old husband with severe injuries, currently receiving treatment in the hospital. A 22-year-old man, believed to be known to the family, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Neighbors described a chaotic scene with people fleeing their homes and a young child found hiding in bushes after hearing distressing noises.
One witness, Reese, described seeing the knifeman chasing and stabbing a girl before turning his aggression towards him.
Obinim, a beloved member of the local Ghanaian community and an active participant at Blessed Baptist Temple, has been remembered as a ‘mother to everyone.’
Friends and colleagues expressed their shock and sorrow, highlighting her kindness and inspirational nature.
Detective Superintendent Toby Facey confirmed that an investigation is underway and urged anyone with information or dashcam footage from the vicinity of Barnard Road to come forward to aid in solving this tragic case.
