The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to provide detailed statistics on the printing of ballot papers ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The request follows a notification from the EC to the NDC, inviting the party’s agents to be present at the Commission’s office on Thursday, October 10, for the commencement of the ballot paper printing process.
The NDC’s concern stems from past allegations of the printing of additional ballot papers during previous elections.
In a letter addressed to the EC on October 9, the NDC emphasized the importance of transparency in the ballot paper printing process.
“We demand that the Electoral Commission provide statistics that will inform the printing of ballot papers for the various constituencies before printing of ballots commences,” the party stated.
They further stressed that accurate data is essential to avoid issues like the production of insufficient or excessive ballot papers on election day, slated for December 7, 2024.
The NDC also criticized the EC for issuing short notices to political parties on critical electoral matters, urging the Commission to adopt better communication practices.
“It would be appreciated if the Electoral Commission would stop giving short notices to Political Parties on very important national issues,” the party noted, referencing a previous request made in July for Electoral Code books, which they believe is crucial for ensuring the integrity of the election process.
