The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for the 2024/25 school year, covering both basic and Senior High Schools (SHS).
According to a statement signed by Mr. Prince Agyeman-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, the new academic year for SHS is set to commence on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
This applies to all SHS students, with continuing students in Single Track Schools resuming on the same date.
Meanwhile, current first-year students in transitional calendar schools will conclude their 2023/24 academic year on Monday, October 28, 2024, and transition directly into their second year.
For the incoming first-year students in Single Track and Transitional Schools, classes will begin on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
This aligns with the overarching goal of streamlining the academic calendar.
“This re-opening date aims to ensure that the school calendar starts in September next year and paves the way for our final year students to write their 2025/26 WASSCE in May/June,” the GES explained in the release.
The new academic structure is designed to bring consistency to the school system, particularly in preparing final year students for their examinations.
