The much-anticipated nationwide strike by the Civil Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), set for February 20, 2025, has been dismissed as baseless by Governance Expert Richard Fiadomor.
Speaking on Prime News on ABC News GH, Mr. Fiadomor made it clear that the protest lacks merit, stressing that appointments within the public service are at the discretion of the President.
“CLOGSAG’s demonstration does not hold,” he asserted, criticizing the association’s insistence that the government remove Samuel Adom Botchway from the Births and Deaths Registry.
He further questioned the union’s stance, stating, “If CLOGSAG thinks the President can only appoint someone from within the public service, then where were they when similar appointments were made by the previous government?”
Fiadomor maintained that the government should not cave to CLOGSAG’s demands.
“The power to appoint is with the President. He exercises this in consultation with the heads of state. If CLOGSAG is saying they want the appointee to come from within their membership, that is not what the Constitution says.”
His comments come amid CLOGSAG’s intensifying calls for a nationwide strike over Mr. Botchway’s continued presence in office.
