The Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ) has secured a significant win for Cameroonian footballer Lionel Bong Ngong, as FIFA ruled in his favor in a contractual dispute with his former club, Power Dynamos FC.
FAWUZ submitted the case to FIFA, advocating for justice on behalf of the player. Following deliberations by FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, Power Dynamos FC has been ordered to pay Lionel Bong Ngong a total of ZMW 525,370.88 in compensation for breach of contract.
The compensation comprises ZMW 256,000 as compensation for breach of contract, plus 5% annual interest from August 1, 2024, until the date of full payment, as well as an additional ZMW 269,370.88 as further compensation for breach of contract.
FAWUZ has welcomed FIFA’s ruling, emphasizing its commitment to protecting the rights of players. According to the union, this decision sends a strong message to clubs in Zambia, reinforcing the importance of honoring contractual agreements and abiding by football regulations.
FIFA has set a 45-day deadline for Power Dynamos FC to complete full payment, including applicable interest. If the club fails to comply, it will face penalties, including a transfer ban preventing the club from registering new players, both nationally and internationally, for up to three consecutive registration periods.
Furthermore, if the debt remains unpaid after this period, the case will be referred to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee for further action. This ruling underscores FIFA’s dedication to protecting footballers’ contractual rights and ensuring that clubs adhere to ethical and professional standards in player management.
