As tensions rise over the impending strike by Civil Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Governance Expert Richard Fiadomor has emphatically stated that the government must not yield to the association’s demands.
In an interview on Prime News with ABC News GH, Fiadomor dismissed CLOGSAG’s insistence on appointing a member from within its ranks, stating, “The President appoints individuals who align with his vision. He has done so, and that decision must stand.”
The strike, set for February 20, 2025, is in response to what CLOGSAG calls the government’s failure to remove Samuel Adom Botchway from his position at the Births and Deaths Registry.
Despite earlier assurances that Mr. Botchway would be replaced, he was reportedly present at a budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on February 17, 2025.
Fiadomor was unyielding in his stance, adding, “If CLOGSAG wants the appointee to be one of them, then that is simply not what the Constitution says.”
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Communications at the Presidency, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has also weighed in, stating that he does not understand why CLOGSAG has taken such an entrenched position.
