Deputy Minister-designate for Works and Housing, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, has revealed plans for a nationwide assessment to identify communities struggling with water shortages and implement necessary interventions.
Speaking during her vetting before the Appointments Committee, she explained that while some pipeline projects are already underway, a comprehensive review is needed to address supply gaps.
She assured that the Ministry of Works and Housing is committed to ensuring equitable access to water across the country, emphasizing that water is a basic necessity that every Ghanaian deserves.
Ms. Tetteh-Agbotui also highlighted the negative impact of illegal mining on Ghana’s water bodies, stating that a multi-sectoral approach is required to address the problem.
She noted that the Ministries of Works and Housing, Lands and Forestry, and Local Government must collaborate to protect water sources and sustain long-term supply.
Discussions, she said, are already underway within the Ministry to develop sustainable solutions that will guarantee a reliable and clean water supply for affected areas.
