The government has called on the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to reconsider its strike action in protest of the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchwey as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
While addressing the issue on Prime News on ABC News GH, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim stressed that the appointment is legal and does not warrant the removal of the appointee.
“The least of CLOGSAG’s worries should be whether a non-civil servant is occupying the position of Registrar,” the representative said.
She urged CLOGSAG to give the government a chance to prove its commitment to improving the efficiency of public institutions.
“We are still open to them reconsidering their decision,” she added.
The government remains firm on its stance, stating that there is no legal basis to remove the president’s appointee, as there are no restrictions against appointing non-civil servants to such positions.
The strike, which has affected operations at the registry, has left several applicants stranded, unaware of the disruption.
