The leadership of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), and the Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) are currently in a high-level closed-door meeting with the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.
The meeting, taking place today, May 14, 2025, is centered on regulating market prices and addressing key challenges facing both businesses and consumers amid the country’s fragile economic recovery.
While the Ghanaian cedi has shown slight appreciation and inflation is on a slow decline, many traders say the improvements have not translated into reduced prices at the market level.
“The economy may be improving on paper, but people are still buying less for more,” one industry official noted ahead of the meeting. The dialogue is examining the enforcement of fair pricing, reviewing the impact of import duties, and seeking policy interventions to support local enterprises.
Today’s engagement, which has drawn wide interest from the business community, is expected to yield practical measures that ensure economic relief is felt across households and small enterprises.
According to sources close to the discussions, outcomes from the meeting could influence upcoming government actions aimed at restoring consumer confidence and strengthening domestic commerce.
