As President John Dramani Mahama prepares to deliver his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025, local governance expert Dr. Richard Fiademor has called for an honest and transparent account of Ghana’s economic situation.
Speaking to ABC News Gh of Friday, February 21, he emphasized the importance of providing a true picture of the nation’s financial standing.
“I expect a true state of the Ghanaian economy,” Dr. Fiademor stated, highlighting the need for clarity on economic recovery plans.
The SONA, as announced by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, will outline the administration’s strategy for economic revival, with key insights into inherited challenges.
According to Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister of State in charge of government communications, the address will detail the legacy of the previous government while presenting a roadmap for stabilization and growth.
Beyond the SONA, a National Economic Dialogue is scheduled for March 3-4, 2025, where stakeholders will discuss strategies for economic transformation.
Finance Minister Ato Forson is also expected to present the government’s first budget on March 11, 2025, outlining key economic policies to overcome current challenges.
Dr. Fiademor emphasized the need for these discussions to lead to concrete, actionable solutions for economic stability.
