Ghanaian footballers Inaki Williams and Abdul Mumin have both been shortlisted for the 2024/25 La Liga African Player MVP award, which honors the best-performing African player in the Spanish top flight each season.
This year’s award features 20 nominees representing 13 African countries. The winner will be selected through a joint voting process involving fans from Sub-Saharan Africa and a panel of 25 leading African sports journalists.
Inaki Williams, last season’s winner, is aiming to retain his title following a strong campaign with Athletic Bilbao. He has scored six goals and provided six assists in the league, making him the club’s second-highest scorer behind Unai Sancet and the third-highest assist provider in La Liga overall. His contributions have been vital to Bilbao’s push for a Champions League return, with the club currently sitting fourth with three games remaining.
Williams also played a key role in Athletic Bilbao’s journey to the Europa League semifinals, scoring five goals and assisting once before they were knocked out by Manchester United.
Abdul Mumin also earned a nomination despite a season-ending knee injury. The defender’s standout performances earlier in the season ensured he remained in contention for the award. A product of the Right to Dream Academy, Mumin’s efforts have not gone unnoticed.
