2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party supporters to exercise restraint as efforts intensify to secure the release of Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Addressing journalists at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) headquarters on Friday, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his commitment to following the appropriate legal procedures to ensure Wontumi’s release.
“We are going to follow the laid-down process to make sure he is released as soon as possible,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “I will plead that we remain calm.
We have to make sure we don’t take the law into our own hands, but rather ensure Chairman Wontumi is released,” he added.
Wontumi was moved to the NIB by EOCO following his arrest and is yet to satisfy bail conditions amounting to GHS50 million with two justified sureties.
His continued detention has attracted crowds of party faithful and sparked intense political discourse.
