Dr. Sammy Ayeh, the Governance Spokesperson at the Presidency, has stated that the Mahama administration will be defined by modesty, accountability, and integrity.
Speaking on ABC Midday News on Monday, May 5, 2025, Dr. Ayeh emphasized that the government is committed to restoring public trust through a series of ethical reforms.
His comments came ahead of President John Dramani Mahama’s planned announcement of a new Code of Conduct for all government appointees—an initiative that forms a key part of the President’s 120-day Social Contract with Ghanaians.
Dr. Ayeh revealed that in a matter of hours, the President will officially launch the Code of Conduct, which will lay down clear expectations and standards of behaviour for public officials.
“This will not be business as usual,” he said. “The President is determined to instill trust in government and uphold transparency across all sectors.”
While acknowledging that Ghanaians have every right to demand accountability, Dr. Ayeh reiterated that many of the current governance challenges, including issues in the energy sector, were inherited. “Government is working tediously to make sure the energy sector is stabilised,” he noted.
Addressing public calls for a timetable on certain reforms, Dr. Ayeh stated, “I don’t think we’ve gotten to a place where we need to publish a timetable.”
However, he assured citizens that the President will be rolling out further measures in the coming days.
The Code of Conduct marks a significant milestone in the government’s anti-corruption and good governance agenda, aiming to eliminate ambiguity in public service conduct and reinforce ethical leadership.
