The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rolled out five major reforms to Ghana’s passport acquisition process, set to take effect from April 28, 2025. These new measures aim to improve service delivery, tighten document security, and enhance convenience and affordability for applicants.
Key among the reforms includes;
- Transition from biometric to chip-embedded passports.
- Introduction of a 24-hour passport service.
- Passport delivery service directly to applicants’ doorsteps.
- Launch of e-tracking services.
- A 30% reduction in passport application fees.
Speaking to journalists in Accra on April 23, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized the government’s balanced approach to affordability and security. “The government is committed to ensuring that the cost remains reasonable while maintaining high security standards,” he stated.
The Ministry is confident these reforms will greatly enhance the applicant experience while safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s travel documents.
