Kim Lars Bjorkegren, the newly appointed head coach of Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, has arrived in Ghana to begin his tenure. The 43-year-old Swedish tactician touched down at Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, where he was warmly received by Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials and enthusiastic fans.
Bjorkegren’s arrival marks a new era for the Black Queens, following the departure of former coach Nora Häuptle. His appointment was confirmed last month after successful negotiations with the GFA, resulting in a two-year contract.
With a wealth of experience in women’s football, having coached in Sweden, China, and the United States, Bjorkegren is renowned for his tactical expertise. To formally introduce him to the Ghanaian football community, the GFA has scheduled a press conference for Friday, February 14, 2025, at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.
At the press conference, Bjorkegren is expected to outline his vision, plans, and strategies for the Black Queens. With little time to settle in, the new coach will immediately focus on preparing the team for an international friendly against Morocco, scheduled for next week in Casablanca.
This fixture will serve as Bjorkegren’s first opportunity to assess the squad. Beyond the friendly, his attention will shift to preparing the team for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), rescheduled for July 2025. The Black Queens are determined to go beyond the group stage and compete for continental glory.
