The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has revised upward the price floors for petroleum products for the first pricing window of August, paving the way for higher fuel prices across the country.

The latest pricing schedule shows increases in the minimum retail thresholds for petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with diesel recording the steepest adjustment.

Under the new pricing structure, the minimum price for petrol has been set at GH¢14.53 per litre, an increase of GH¢1.25 from the GH¢13.28 recorded during the second pricing window of July. The adjustment represents a 9.4 percent rise.

Diesel registered the most significant increase, with its price floor climbing from GH¢14.35 to GH¢16.97 per litre. The GH¢2.62 increment translates into an 18.3 percent increase, making it one of the largest diesel price floor adjustments in recent years.

The price floor for LPG has also been revised upward to GH¢11.06 per kilogram, compared with GH¢10.19 per kilogram previously. The increase of GH¢0.87 per kilogram represents an 8.5 percent rise.

The revised price floors establish the minimum retail prices that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) are required to observe during the pricing window. However, the figures do not include additional costs such as premiums charged by International Oil Trading Companies (IOTCs), operating margins of Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), or marketers’ and dealers’ margins, which are determined separately under the Petroleum Product Pricing Guidelines.

The latest adjustments come against the backdrop of rising global crude oil prices and continued pressure on the local currency. Brent crude prices have strengthened in recent weeks following renewed geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Iran, while the Bank of Ghana’s July 2026 Summary of Economic and Financial Data indicated that the cedi had depreciated by 9.5 percent against the U.S. dollar by the end of July.

Industry observers expect the higher fuel price floors to translate into increased pump prices in the coming days as oil marketing companies adjust their rates.

The sharp rise in fuel prices is also expected to drive up transportation and logistics expenses, raise production costs for businesses and ultimately exert additional pressure on consumer prices, with transport fares also likely to come under renewed upward review during the August pricing window.
