Popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has reportedly passed away at the age of 40, sparking widespread reactions across the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Reports of his alleged death began circulating on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, after several colleagues took to social media to share emotional tributes and express shock over the news. However, at the time of filing this report, the actor’s family had not issued any official confirmation regarding the circumstances surrounding his reported passing.

Among the first industry figures to react was actress Funke Akindele, who shared a deeply emotional message on her Instagram story. She expressed regret over not being able to reach him before the news broke, adding that she would always cherish the memories they shared. She referred to him affectionately as “Ore mi,” a phrase he reportedly used for her, and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.

Actor Bolanle Ninalowo also reacted from abroad, describing the news as painful and expressing sympathy for the bereaved family. He prayed for strength and healing for those affected by the development.

Another colleague, Godwin Nnadiekwe, said he was struggling to process the reports, describing Ekubo as a “rare soul” whose passing had left a deep void in the film industry. He further referenced claims circulating online that the actor had made prior personal preparations, describing the situation as heartbreaking.

Concerns about the actor’s wellbeing had surfaced in recent months after fans noticed his prolonged absence from social media. His last known Instagram activity dates back to December 30, 2024, fueling speculation among followers.

A viral video of the actor making a public appearance in recent weeks also sparked conversation online, with some viewers noting that he appeared noticeably slimmer and more withdrawn than before. These observations had already triggered health-related concerns prior to the emergence of the latest reports.

Despite the growing tributes and online reactions, there has been no official statement from his family or management confirming the news, leaving uncertainty around the situation.

The development has nonetheless sent shockwaves through Nollywood, with fans and colleagues continuing to share messages of grief, remembrance, and hope as they await further clarification.
