The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will present its version of the State of the Nation Address, dubbed the “True State of the Nation Address,” on March 4, 2025.
According to the party, this move is necessary to correct what it describes as “selective omissions and misrepresentations” in President John Mahama’s February 27 address to Parliament.
The NPP argues that the President failed to comprehensively address critical national issues such as worsening power supply, rising security concerns, and the resurgence of illegal mining (galamsey), all of which are significantly affecting the nation.
Led by Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the NPP’s leadership in Parliament will present what they claim is a more factual and objective account of the country’s economic and security conditions.
The party insists that Mahama’s address did not fully acknowledge Ghana’s challenges, particularly the cancellation of public sector recruitments and its impact on unemployment.
“The State of the Nation Address is a constitutional mandate intended to provide an honest and comprehensive update on the state of affairs, but unfortunately, the address delivered by the President fell short of this obligation,” the party stated.
