The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for all gold traders to transition to its new licensing regime from May 21 to June 21, 2025.
This follows multiple petitions from industry stakeholders, and was confirmed in a statement signed by GoldBod’s Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minkah.
Until the new deadline, those holding licenses previously issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources may continue to operate though GoldBod insists this grace period is final and non-renewable.
Effective immediately, however, all export rights under old licenses have been revoked. “Only holders of a GoldBod license will be allowed to purchase, sell, or deal in gold after June 21, 2025,” the statement stressed, warning that violations will be punishable under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
GoldBod now holds exclusive authority to export small-scale gold, centralising control of gold exports under one entity.
The agency is urging dealers to apply for new licenses through its website, while emphasizing that post-deadline operations without a valid GoldBod license will not be tolerated.
