The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has unveiled Kim Lars Bjorkegren as the new head coach of the senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens.
The 43-year-old Swedish tactician arrived at Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. His introduction marks a new chapter for the Black Queens, following the departure of former coach Nora Häuptle.
Bjorkegren’s appointment was confirmed last month after successful negotiations with the GFA, resulting in a two-year contract. The Swedish coach is known for his tactical acumen and experience in women’s football, having previously coached in Sweden, China, and the United States.
With little time to settle in, the new coach will prepare the Black Queens for an international friendly against Morocco, scheduled to take place next week in Casablanca. This fixture, part of the February FIFA international window, will serve as Bjorkegren’s first opportunity to assess the squad.
Beyond the friendly, the coach’s focus will shift to preparing the team for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), rescheduled for July 2025. The Black Queens are determined to go beyond the group stage and compete for continental glory.
